What to assert

The secure area is conditional rendering — while logged out it simply does not exist in the DOM. A good negative test asserts that welcome-banner is absent before login, not merely invisible. The session lives in sessionStorage under the key pg-auth: reloading this tab keeps you logged in, but a fresh tab starts logged out.
